MINUTES OF THE ANNUAL MEETING OF THE PARISH MEETING
MONDAY 27th MARCH 2023 AT 7:30pm

1. To receive apologies for absence
Apologies were noted from Cllr Haines, Cllr Churchill, Cllr Muller, Cllr Falder, Cllr Bridges, Cllr Meyrick, Cllr Corner.
2. To receive the Annual report for 2022/23 – Cllr Toone
Like the rest of the country, residents of Bretby will probably remember 2022 for the events relating to the royal family. The happy celebrations for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee during the year were soon overshadowed by the death of Her Majesty in September. Although the parish did not arrange a communal celebration for the Jubilee several smaller events did take place and several floral tributes, both official and private, were laid on the village green on the announcement of Her Majesty’s death.
On a lighter note plans are afoot for the celebration of the Coronation of King Charles III on May 5th with a barn dance at Hill Farm, courtesy of the Falder family. It is hoped as many parishioners (and friends) as possible will attend.
For the Parish Council concern has been continually voiced about the performance of some sections of the local council. In particular the planning function is still extremely slow, with applications taking months instead of weeks and some resulting decisions difficult to reconcile. It is hoped that this situation will be resolved shortly.
By far the most discussed and complained about items in the Parish is that of traffic, particularly on Bretby Lane and Knights Lane. There have been numerous complaints about speeding, irresponsible parking on footpaths, unacceptable parking of contractors vehicles where building work is taking place, and lack of adequate pavements on dangerous bends on Bretby Lane. Although representation had been made to the various authorities, for example the Area Forum, Safer Neighbourhood Team and CREST, no progress has been made in solving these problems.
Due to the resignation of two councillors on personal grounds there are two vacancies for Parish Councillors which we hope to fill at the next election.
Thanks are due to our Clerk for another year’s work in keeping us all in order and the Parish Council ticking over, and to our District and County Councillors for their assistance when needed.
